Waltham Abbey, Baptists

Waltham Abbey, Baptists – Upon the death of James Hargreaves, minister at Waltham Abbey, in 1845, one of the participants in his funeral was P. J. Saffery, now living in Waltham Abbey and working for the Religious Tract Society (14). May not be correct; or he had just left his work with the BMS. He soon transferred his membership, and that of his wife, daughter, and sister-in-law, to Waltham Abbey (15). After the death of Rev. East in 1851, P. J. Saffery supplied some, but soon moved his family to Hammersmith (17).  See W. Jackson, One Hundred and Fifty Years of Baptist History at Waltham Abbey (London: Elliot Stock; Waltham Abbey: Mrs. Trapp and Mrs. Upton, 1880).
