James Leach

James Leach (bap. 1761, d. 1798), a Methodist, was one of the most famous eighteenth-century composers of nonconformist church music. He published A New Sett of Hymns and Psalm Tunes (1789), and A Second Sett of Hymns and Psalm Tunes (1794?), this volume containing forty-eight tunes and three set pieces. Forty-eight of his tunes appeared in David's Companion, or, The Methodist Standard by James Evans (1810).
