F. Allport

F. Allport partnered with a Capt. Wimble in forming a shipping business at the corner of Gracechurch Street and Leadenhall Street. Many of Allport’s ships had been built by Messrs. Wigram of Blackwall, all departing from Gravesend bound for Madras or Calcutta, with shipping operations being conducted by Allport’s firm. One of the ships, the Maidstone (1000 tons), was used by the Baptist Missionary Society in the 1830s and '40s.
