John Ryland Harris

John Ryland Harris (1802-23), from Swansea, Wales, was a Baptist, the son of Joseph Harris (see entry below). He learned the printing trade early, and in his teens was assisting his father with his newspaper, Seren Gomer. He made numerous literary contributions to the paper, including some translations into Welsh of Milton’s Paradise Lost. He contributed essays on the Welsh language to the Monthly Magazine. His last published work was Grisiau cerdd arwes, all works written by the age of twenty-one.
