James Thomas

James Thomas (1799-1858) was the son of Thomas Thomas (see below). He served as a BMS missionary to India, 1826-1858. His wife died in September 1840, leaving him with seven young children. His second wife was Martha Wilson, who was sent to India in 1839 by the Society for Promoting Female Education in the East to teach in English schools (see letters 162, 171). His letters from Calcutta appeared frequently in the pages of the Missionary Herald throughout the 1840s.
