Henry Butterworth

Henry Butterworth (1786-1860) was a law publisher in London (he was the grandson of John Butterworth of Coventry and nephew of Joseph Butterworth, the London publisher).  At fifteen he came to London to work for his uncle in Fleet Street, where he became acquainted with William Wilberforce and many other evangelical friends of his uncle. In 1818 he opened his own business in Fleet Street, competing with his uncle, one of his major imprints being John Stephen’s Commentaries on the Laws of England (1841).  Lived and died an Anglican, however.
