Isaac Taylor (Baptist)

Isaac Taylor (1755-1810) was converted at 15, baptized at 17 and joined the Baptist church at Fairford, Gloucestershire.  He studied at Bristol Academy, 1774-6, and then began his ministry at Calne, where he was ordained on 2 July 1777. In 1796 he left Calne to assist Philip Gibbs at the Baptist church in George Street, Plymouth, but he resigned after only seven months. He returned to the church at Calne, where he remained until his death. Taylor did publish his address preached before the Association meeting at Horsley that May, which appeared later that year as The Glory of Zion (Bristol: Harris and Bryon, 1807). This Isaac Taylor should not be confused with the Independent minister and engraver, Isaac Taylor (1759-1829), of Colchester and Ongar. For Taylor of Calne, see Baptist Magazine 3 (1811), 45-50.
