John Studderd 

John Studderd (1750-1818) was a schoolmaster and Baptist minister who founded the Baptist church in Colne, Lancashire, in 1769, remaining there until his death in 1818. His two brothers, Thomas (1752-1815) and Jabez (1762-1827) were both Baptist layman and occasional preachers in Baptist churches. Thomas was a schoolmaster then a buyer and seller for the firm of W. & J. Whitacre was a bookkeeper for the same firm. A vast collection of Baptist letters concerning the Studderd family can be found in the Studderd Family Papers, 1768-1823, belonging now to the collections of the Huntington Library in California.
