Robert Gay

Robert Gay (d. 1865), from Hastings, was appointed a BMS missionary to Jamaica in 1842, working with Knibb in the publication of the Baptist Herald and the Friend of Africa; he also supervised Knibb’s schools. He later ministered to the Falmouth church, 1847-1856.  He retired from the mission field in 1856 and returned to England, where he ministered to the Baptist church at Little Kingshill until his death in 1865. In letter 219, Gay was just commencing his voyage to Jamaica. See John Clarke, Memorials of the Baptist Missionaries in Jamaica (London: Yates and Alexander, 1869), 185.
