Joseph Gwennap

Joseph Gwennap (d. 1813) was the nephew of Andrew Gifford, pastor minister at Eagle Street, London. Gwennap was converted in the 1750s near his home in Falmouth. From 1760 to 1764 he served as pastor of a Baptist congregation connected with the Independent congregation in that location, after which he served as the pastor the entire congregation at Abbey Lane Independent Church in Saffron Walden until 1774, after which he removed to the Upper Meeting Baptist Church in Saffron Walden, remaining in that capacity until 1782. He moved in 1783 to take over duties for his ailing uncle at Eagle Street in London. Upon Gifford's death in 1784, Gwennap became minister to a Strict Baptist congregation meeting in Piccadilly in London, but eventually developed issues with the members over his views on polygamy. He died in Walworth in 1813.
