Miss Thomas

A Miss Thomas was the assistant teacher in Sarah Norton Biggs’s school in south London in the first decades of the nineteenth century. She was most likely the daughter of Timothy Thomas, Baptist minister at Devonshire Square, London, who also operated a school for boys, or one of his relations, Thomas Thomas, also a Baptist minister, who moved to south London himself about that same time, or Lemuel Thomas. Timothy Thomas’s wife was the former Sarah Evans (d. 1800), who was Caleb Evans’s half-sister, which would have made Miss Thomas a cousin to Sarah Biggs. They appear together in the Rate Books for Camberwell at that time near Camberwell Road and Peckham Road.
