The Bucks of Bury St. Edmunds

The Bucks of Bury St. Edmunds – they were also members at Waldegrave’s Independent congregation at Whiting Street in Bury. Catherine Buck (1772-1856), though only three years HCR’s senior, was both his close friend and his first ‘social’ mentor. Even after her marriage to the famed abolitionist Thomas Clarkson (1760-1846) in 1796, their friendship (and correspondence) continued for another sixty years.
