Jedediah Morse

Jedediah Morse (1761-1826) ministered for many years to the Congregational Church in Charlestown, Massachusetts. He was an ardent Federalist, evangelical, and religious writer, assisting in the founding of Andover Seminary, the American Tract Society, and the American Bible Society. He authored America’s first geography, The American Geography; Or, A View of the Present Situation of the United States of America (1789), and in 1790 came out with his important History of America. One of his sons was Samuel F. B. Morse, inventor of the Morse code.
