Robert Simpson

Rev. Robert Simpson (1745-1817) was the Independent minister at Stockport was the who had arrived at the congregation at Duke’s Alley in 1782, and was ordained there in October 1782.  He eventually removed to London to become tutor at the Academy at Mile End, then relocating at Hoxton, upon the resignation of Stephen Addington.  He preached his last sermon at Bolton in March 1791.  He remained at Hoxton for 27 years, pastoring briefly at Artillery Street in the late 1790s.  He was instrumental in the founding of the Evangelical Magazine.
