William Dickens

William Dickens was most likey baptized and added to the Kettering church on October 30, 1785 (Kettering Church Book, Fuller Church, Kettering, f. 4). Dickens appears on several occasions in the Kettering Church Book: October 31, 1785 (here his name  is recorded as "Edward" Dickens); October 1785 (f. 88) notes that a William Dickens was presented for baptism but was having difficulties with another member of the church concerning his baptism and admission to the church, an event that continues in the entry for September 29, 1785. Andrew Fuller in his diary refers to this individual as both Edward (October 31, 1785) and William (September 15, 1785), though he seems to be one and the same person. Most likely this is the same William Dickens who later ministered to the Baptist congregation at Keysoe, Bedfordshire, between 1790 and 1798. The entries in the church book and Fuller's diary suggest that he may have been exercising his gift for preaching in the Kettering church as early as 1785.
