Eliza Fletcher

Eliza Fletcher (1770-1858) was a poet, formerly of Edinburgh, who settled at Thorney How in 1840 and, after 1841, at Lancrigg, near Grasmere in the Lake District. She first met the Wordsworths in 1833 when visiting the family of Thomas Arnold at Fox How, also near Grasmere. Her husband died in 1828. Her daughter Margaret married Dr John Davy, brother of Sir Humphry, in 1830, and they also settled near Grasmere. She was a friend of the poet Thomas Campbell. Her daughter, Mary, lived with her at Lancrigg. She was also known to Crabb Robinson.
