Knott Family

The Knotts of Eythorn were a family of blacksmiths and mostly General Baptists. John Knott (1723-93) was trustee of the General Baptist meeting house there, and became an elder in 1759, but left the Assembly in 1770, and by 1785 was ministering at Bow as a Particular Baptist. His son, also John (1753-1818), ministered at Eythorn, then worked at Chatham as a baker, then pastor of the Particular Baptist church there from 1776-1816. Thomas Knott (probably the elder John Knott’s brother) was a bookseller/publisher in London from 1789, with considerable Baptist connections.
