John Jenkins

John Jenkins (1656?-1733) was the grandfather of the Baptists minister Joseph Jenkins (see below). John Jenkins was the primary minister of the Baptist congregation at Rhydwilym from 1689 until his death in 1733. By the turn of the century, Jenkins had become one of the leading Baptist ministers in Wales, acquiring some notoriety from his dispute with John Thomas, Independent minister at Llwyn-y-grawys, Llangoedmor, in 1691 over the question of baptism. Jenkins is believed to be the first minister to receive assistance from the Particular Baptist Fund in 1718. See Dictionary of Welsh Biography.
