Stamford' Men's B team completed the weekend double over Long Sutton on Sunday when they beat their visiting A side in the second division of the Lincolnshire League, claiming 14 of the 18 points available.

With two rinks drawing and another losing, the match hinged on victories for rinks skipped by Albert Horton and Jonathan Earl and they duly delivered to help record a narrow overall win.

In individual national competitions, Adam Warrington suffered a shock 3-21 home defeat at the hands of Spalding's England Under 25 international Matt Whyers in the second round of the indoor singles.

However, the ever improving Alan Romaine pitched the experienced Mick Tomlin out of the Over 60s singles on his favoured rink 5 at Boston. Trailing 14-19, Romaine hit back to win 21-19. Sadly John Pearson lost 13-21 to John Maury at the same venue.

Derek King's rink almost caused an upset in the fours when they led Dion Auckland's Grantham quartet, including three past and present internationals, by five shots in the closing stages. But they were unable to hang on and finally lost narrowly on the last end.

In the women's Champion of Champions singles, Christine Barnes looked to be heading for an upset when she led England International Annalisa Bellamy 10-2.

But the Spalding starlet who heads to the Far East this week to represent her country in the Hong Kong pairs finally adjusted to the Stamford rink and ran out a 21-12 winner.

Glenys Edwards and Christine Ford competing in the English Ladies Veterans Pairs were beaten at home by six shots by Wendy Featherstone and Lyn Clare from Long Sutton.
