Summer Success

The summer pairs knockout competition was won by Chris Ballard’s pair of Ballard & Dave Edwards but with John Little standing in for Edwards in the final. Ballard is having a good summer having reached the final rounds of the national indoor singles finals.

On Sunday at 11am Ballard plays seasoned campaigner, Paul Hartley from South Shields at the neutral venue of York Indoor Bowls Club in the last 16 of the competition.

Taster Sessions

New members are always welcome and to show people the wonderful facilities at the club the public are invited to come along for a taster session on either of our two Open Days this coming weekend. The club will be open between 10am and 4pm each day and all equipment is provided with members available to show how to play the game. It is a game that can be played by ages (7 years +) and abilities to whatever level suits the individual. It can be played socially or as competitively as you wish and coaching will be available on Saturday mornings from Saturday 16th September. It is an excellent way to make new friends and get some gentle exercise. We have even recently recruited some people with Parkinsons and one person who bowls with prosthetic legs. It also offers sporting opportunities to those who are unable to continue in more active sports whilst many starting at a younger age can progress to international competition.

Summer Season Comes to an End

As the summer season comes to an end most things have now been decided. In the domestic leagues most of the leagues have now been decided with Derek Cave’s ‘Golf’ team of himself, L Cave, J & E Purvis with P & G Gray taking the Monday Evening Triples league with 30 points followed by Chris Ballard’s ‘Whisky’ team of Ballard, R Blake, D Edwards, P Green, I Reading & K Moore on 26 points.

The Tuesday Pairs league was comfortably won by Bernie Crouch’s ‘Carnations teams which included R Tooley, J Pitt, A King & P Heather on 33 points followed by Paul Green’s ‘Roses’ Team on 25 points. In addition to Green ‘Roses’ players included T. Diovisalvi, R Blake & H Neath,

With one game to play in the Wednesday Morning Triples League it’s still all to play for with Lyn Tuck’s Solar Eclipse narrowly in the lead from ‘The Wakes’ & ‘Ullswater’ who could yet overtake them but only with a good score difference in their final game. Stu Taylors ‘Galaxy’ team of Taylor, A Story, S Duffin & C Hulbert are champions of the Novices Triples league on 23 points with one game left play, ‘Carpenters’ are in second place but their race in run and they could yet be overtaken by Marissa Hirst’s ‘Margays team. All players in this league have less than three years experience and many are showing good promise which bodes well for the club.

The Winter Season Begins

The club is now looking forward to the winter season with all the domestic leagues sorted and the national team competitions are now known. One of the tastiest team competitions is the men’s fixture in the Denny Cup, against close neighbours, and previous champions, Spalding Lightning on Saturday 21st October.

New rules have been introduced for postponing league games. For all postponements the Team Captain must notify the League Secretary and the opposing Team as quickly as possible and ensure that the rink is cancelled. Where the opposition has agreed to a postponement the Team Captain instigating the postponement must, within 7 days of the match being postponed, agree a suitable date with their opponent and book a new fixture date, notifying the League Secretary of such arrangements. However, the rearranged match does not need to be played within 7 days of the postponement but a date for the rearranged match must be fixed within that 7 day period.
