Nigel Kettle Singles Open of to an Exciting Start

Post date: Sep 29, 2019 7:46:08 AM

Saturday saw some excellent games taking place at Stamford. Unfortunately two players had to pull out at the last moment as they had just witnessed an event on a nearby bowls green which was upsetting to say the least. This gave the opportunity for some local talent to take to the green in the guise of stalwart Roger Graham and new local young talent, 9 year old Ollie Jeapes, whose father, Michael, was playing to rinks away. Both gave a good account of themselves with Ollie only narrowly losing to another Stamford player, Richard Allam. Another of our local talent, Tony Barwell faced Jeff Pitt from Peterborough in a close game that went to a tie break which was won by Pitt.

Local Player, Stephen Harris, who now plays his competitions out of Spalding and was runner up last year played Lewis Parnell from Melton Mowbray in what proved to be another close encounter which Harris won on the tie break. In the second round Michael Jeapes had a close encounter Rob Greenwood from Huntingdon which Greenwood won on the tie break. Harris then faced Allam in the second round with the players evenly matched the game went to a three tie break and with the first two end tied the final tie break saw Allam holding the shot with a bowl inches from the jack. Harris with his final bowl then played the magic bowl round the shot bowl to nestle the jack and take the game.
