Stamford bowler Stephen Harris got off to a winning start in his first appearance for England Under 25s in Aberdeen today, helping his rink to 16-15 victory against Scotland over 21 ends.

Playing at lead for Jack Bird, Andy Rodgers and skip Jamie Barker, the Harris's rink started nervously and went 6-11 behind but a five count on the 11th end put them on terms and they held on by one shot, despite conceding two on the penultimate end.

Harris's Spalding clubmate Jordan Philpott lost 17-20 and Ed Elmore (City of Ely) lost 19-28 but thanks also to team captain Conor Cinato's 25-11 victory, England won the match 77-74. (Photo courtesy of Spalding IBC)

...THEN WINS AGAIN AGAINST IRELAND

England now head the series with two wins, having earlier beaten Scotland.

Playing again at lead for Jamie Barker's quartet, the rink took an early 11-3 lead before conceding nine shots In three ends. However, with eight shots in as many ends they hit back and finally won 19-14.

TRIPLES REPEAT BY RIPPIN & CO

For the second successive year Bob Warters, Cliff Watson and Keith Rippin have reached the Area 5 final of the Over 50 triples and are again just one win away from reaching the national finals at Nottingham for which they qualified in 2018.

Having beaten triples from Peterborough and Grantham (twice) they faced Spalding's Steve Hill, Nick Wilkie and Martin Simpson at Stamford and looked in trouble at 3-8 after seven ends before picking up eight shots in four ends to lead 11-10 .

By the penultimate 17th end they led 17-13 and covering all eventualities to prevent a big count against them, leaving Simpson looking to kill the end. He failed and they ran out 17-14 winners and will play a trio from Charnwood on a neutral green in early March.

Last year, having won the area final at Melton they ran into a blizzard which left Watson and his wife stranded on the A1 for seven hours!

FEDERATION LATEST

Elizabeth Wallace who completed a Northants Federation double last year by winning both senior and 4-bowl singles, lost the latter at the semi-final stage. Against an on form Helen Holroyd she lost 21-3. Holroyd will play Louise Harris in the final at Stamford on March 17.
