Don't Panic

Things didn’t go quite to plan at our latest weekend friendly away at Sleaford at the weekend. Our ever optimistic captain Maggie Holden was confident, that with the inclusion of a couple of the club’s most promising youngsters and a couple of the tried and trusted old guard we would come up with a winning formula that has so far eluded us. So, off we go. After our usual cautious start we are fourteen down after four ends. One can hear all the usual cliches echoing around the rinks from our ever exuberant combatants. Plenty of time yet, we’ll win the next end, all we need is a bit of luck, don’t panic! We move on to seven ends played and we have pulled back to eleven down mainly due to our newly found skip Jill Goode who’s rink was our only one in the lead, up by 8-5. At the halfway stage we are twenty behind with Jill Goode’s quartet still leading the challenge 15-6 up. James Hebden’s rink took a six to go in front 14-10 and finish as our second best rink 30-12. Ok we lost by 143-117 at the end of play, but congratulations to Jill Goode, Joy Winfield, Margaret Andrews and Reg Goode who with an impressive 36-11 win took the best rink honours for the second week running. Can Jill make it a hat trick in our next match at home to Melton.

Rink scores: Reg Goode, Margaret Andrews, Joy Winfield, Jill Goode won 36-11; Helen Holroyd, Serena Brunning, Bob Hulka, James Hebden won 30-12; Janet Dye, Howard Neath, Doug Ellis, Maurice Dye lost 13-36; Janet Lonslow, Janet Moore, Colin Burgess, Arthur Lonslow lost 13-33; Ann Preston-Bambridge, Margaret Grainger, Ron Blake, Nigel Trigg lost 16-19; Elizabeth Wallace , Maggie Holden, Cherry Burgess, Martin Wallace lost 9-34.

PS One of the team is going to start to learn the ukulele. Anyone know a teacher? And there’s a set of woods up for sale for a fiver
