One Hand on the Silver 'Salva'?

You’ve heard of the saying “When the cat’s away the mice will play”. Well, when the captain’s away............ applies to our Weekend Friendly team’s performance against the down the road arch rivals Spalding in the annual battle for the coveted ‘Silver Salva’. THEY WON! Yes, your eye’s are not deceiving you , our wily ‘Weekenders’ won the first leg of this epic contest by 87-79 and this was without the leadership of captain Maggie Holden who was away on ‘Granddaughter Duty’ supporting her youngest who was appearing onstage at the Corn Exchange theatre. Will she pick the same team en bloc, which wouldn’t include herself, to play the next match? Watch the notice board carefully. So we won on three and lost on three with that tried and trusted threesome of Reg Goode, Serena Brunning and Jill Goode along with Joy Winfield making up the four taking the best rink honours. So we take an eight point lead to Spalding for the return leg next year. Hopefully by then they can find the ‘Silver Salva’. Nobody on their side seemed to know where it is. Do we care, yes we do; we want it back here. So get searching you Spaldingites. Thanks to Dennis Henshaw for captaining our side on the day.

Rink scores: Val White, Ann Preston Bambridge, Cherry Burgess, Ken White won 17-10; Reg Goode, Serena Brunning, Joy Winfield, Jill Goode won 19-9; Ken Rawlins, Janet Childs, Paul Frampton, Adrian Childs lost 12-14; Howard Neath, Vanessa Shackleton, Janet Benns, Dennis Henshaw lost 10-19; Dave Edwards, Malcolm Mann, Roly McHard, Ron Blake won 17-11; Janet Moore, Margaret Grainger, Colin Burgess, Doug Ellis lost 13-16.

PS As a reminder to everyone who puts their name down to play. The match and meal fee has to be paid even if a player chooses not to have the meal. It is club policy.
