TO CELEBRATE their induction as Stamford Indoor Bowls Club honorary presidents for 2016-17, Denis Stapleton and Maggie Holden are planning to introduce an Open three-bowl triples tournament on Sunday, November 27 with a £200 first prize.

Sponsored by bowls equipment suppliers D and M Sports of Spalding, the tournament aims to attract upto 24 teams playing in two staggered sections.

Each group plays four 8-end matches collating two points for a win, one for a draw and a further point for each end won. Top trio in each section compete over six ends for the top prize (£100 for the losers) with runners-up in each section playing off for third and fourth with £50 and £25 at stake respectively.

Says Maggie: "We wanted to introduce a special gala event as part of our year as Presidents of the club and we felt this would be a great way to kick things off."

The competition is open to all members and those from surrounding clubs, any combination, men's women's or mixed, accepted. Entry forms are available at Stamford IBC reception or by contacting Maggie on 01778 349534.

Entry costs £18 per team with a closing date of October 31. Food will be available throughout the tournament and the bar will be manned, too.
