Stamford Men's A team started their 2018-19 season in the Lincolnshire first division with an emphatic victory at Louth, determined in their bid to regain the title they won for the first time in 2017.

With just a handful of the 21 ends to play, the scores were level. The teams shared 144 shots, before Stamford turned the screw and ran out comfortable winners 101-88 to claim 14 of the 18 points available.

While the rinks skipped by Martyn Dolby and Peter Edwards surged to comfortable wins, it was left to captain Paul Bailey - skipping a rink featuring 10-year-old Owen Aspinall - to put the result beyond doubt.

They trailed 10-15 with five ends remaining before levelling their match at 18-apiece then maximising a packed head to claim five shots on the final end and secure a 23-18 victory.

The team's next county fixture is on November 4 at newly promoted Sleaford who have already postponed a fixture against Louth, unable to raise a team.
