National Success for Club Members

Stamford's Katie Bailey Helps Lincolnshire's County Ladies Win the Atherley Trophy

Skipping one of Lincolnshire's 4 winning rinks against a strong Dorset side Bailey was in fine form seeing her rink to victory by 4 shots on Saturday afternoon at Nottingham. The competition is a national competition between ladies from each of England's counties and was last won by Lincolnshire in the 2019/20 season.

Pictured above is the team with Bailey 6th from the left on the back row. Stamford's Helen Butler who now plays at Boston is also in the picture 10th from left in the back row.

Also at Nottingham on Saturday were two of Stamford's younger bowlers who are also members at nearby Spalding. They were competing with their Spalding team mates in the National  under 30 Double Rinks.

Stephen Harris and Ollie Jeapes were  playing a semi final triples game in the morning where they won comfortably against Exonia by 43 shots to 25.

Harris & Jeapes then faced a sterner test against another  good local side, that of Huntingdon's finest youngsters in which they triumphed by 36-29 to enable the celebrations to begin.

More Success for Juniors at County Level

Playing in the senior section of the County Junior under 18 Singles at Louth on Saturday, Owen Aspinall faced a stern test of his abilities against 13 other youngsters in his age group. In a long day where he played 4 games of 8 ends Aspinall won 3 of his games, coming third in the senior group thus progressing to the semi-finals. Winning his semi-final against George Almey of Spalding he will now play Jack Wells in the finals at the youngsters home club, Spalding, on Saturday 22 April.

Semi finalists of both the senior and junior sections of the Under 18 Competition.

There was less success for Stamford bowlers competing in the Lincolnshire Indoor Bowls Association's semi finals at Sleaford on the Sunday. In the morning John Holroyd lost in straight sets to the fancied Dominic MvVittie from Spalding whilst Ollie Jeapes lost the deciding set to Nathan Dunnington from Boston.

In the afternoon McVittie was partnered by Jean Patterson from Spalding and this mixed pairing proved the better of Stamford's Kevin Vinter & Christine Ford by 29 shots to 6. The late afternoon session faired no better for Stamford when Paul Bark of Horncastle saw of Richard Allam's challenge by 21-6 and multi county pairs winners Billy Jackson & Danny Brown of Lincoln saw of Tony Barwell & Jeff Pitt's challenge comfortably by 20 shots to 3.

More Youngsters Needed

Seeing how well our younger bowlers have been doing we are throwing out the opportunity for other youngsters to come along and see what its all about. We have taster sessions available on Sunday 23 April between 10 am and 4pm and whilst youngsters are especially invited we don't mind them bringing some of their elder family members along to see what its all about.

As the poster says "its not just old man's marbles".  Indeed most the successful bowlers in the game started when they were juniors and find it challenging but enjoyable. It is a game that can be played by all ages and at a level that suits each individual. It is therefore, an ideal family activity.
