Stamford indoor bowls' growing season...

Over the last few years Stamford Indoor Bowls Club has witnessed a spectacular growth in the numbers of winter league and casual bowlers staying indoors and competing in the indoor club, year round writes the club's summer press officer Alan Romaine. Only half a dozen years ago there were bowling sessions only on Tuesday and Thursday mornings catering for 40 plus members per session but now we find the club active for six days a week.

Now supplementing those Tuesday and Thursday casual drive sessions with a very active league programme Monday Evenings, Tuesday Lunchtimes, Wednesday Mornings and Friday Evenings a total of 49 teams with 200 plus members taking part. Indeed copies of the summer league table can be found on this site here. Also with Saturday morning sessions designed to not only provide a further opportunity for regular members to "swing their arm" but for the club to welcome anyone to simply "turn up and take a peep" and if there is space available to even "have a go", please arrive by 9.30.

It would appear that a strong move towards year round indoor bowling is underway and at our Exeter Gardens venue we are well equipped to cater for those wishing to "sample" this wonderful game. Our club with a membership of well in excess of 500 is continually seeking to build on the clubs enviable reputation both socially and competitively, with club members reaching final stages of both county and national competitions during the last winter season.

We are "a very active and progressive club" as commented by the then current world indoor singles champion Andy Thomson on a recent visit.
