Men's B win at Spalding

With an outstanding 28-shot victory at Spalding, Stamford Men's B moved into second place behind their own A team at the top of the First Division of the Lincs League.

Outstanding among the three winning rinks was that featuring Ron Blake, Mick Smith, Ally McNaughton and Trevor Christie who captured 19 shots in the last 11 ends to win 29-10.

Rinks skipped by Alan Barnes and Cliff Watson also won but credit to Tony Barwell, Mark Hebden, Keith Rippin and Richard Montgomery who scored five without reply on the last three ends to salvage what could be a vital point.

VICTORY FOR NORTHANTS 'A' OVER NORTH CAMBS

Northants 'A' team can take a further giant leap towards retaining the English Bowling Federation's Derbyshire Trophy inter-county title they won last year if they can take maximum points from the visit of Hunts to Stamford IBC on Sunday (10 am).

The team sits firmly on top of the southern area table with two wins, after taking a maximum 14 points at home to North Cambs.

Wayne Aspinall and Dusty Miller were drafted in to the side and helped Northants to a 118-68 overall victory, winning all three two bowl triples rinks.

Their final two fixtures are away to Lincolnshire at Lincoln on February 16 and Norfolk at Gallows on February 23.

Northants B face Lincs at Peterborough IBC ON Sunday (December 1, 10am).

The team will be selected from the following: B. Bassam, M. Beck,J. Clipston, M. Duell, M. Greaves, J. Holroyd, R. Keating, M. Linnell, D. Noble, M. Ramsden, M. Squires, C. Watson.

STUBBORN DUO PUT UP BRAVE PAIRS FIGHT

Michael Jeapes and his son Olly put up stubborn resistance against England internationals Matt Whyers and Jordan Philpott (Spalding) in the first round of the EIBA Pairs.

They finally lost 19-4 but not before the ten year old had shown skill beyond his years in matching Whyers at lead then directing his dad at the head.

John Holroyd and his partner face the winners, having been given a walk-over by Martin Simpson (Spalding). It was a similar situation for Jeff Pitt (Peterborough) over Simon Law (Stamford).

Pitt plays Stephen Harris and Graham Smith (Spalding) in the second round while Neil Wright and Adam Warrington (Stamford) face Kevin Ekins and his partner from Spalding.

'A' TEAM HOME TO LINCOLN

With several players unavailable, A team captain Paul Bailey gives three bowlers their debut at home to defending champions Lincoln in the Men's First Division on Saturday (1.10pm). They are Garry Knights, Paul Buckley and Dick Ford.

JUNIORS AT HORNCASTLE

Ollie and Amia Jeapes and Owen Aspinall will represent Stamford at the Lincs Junior Playoffs at Horncastle,on Saturday.
