For the first time in recent memory Stamford's women's team, competing in the Lincs Trudy Bates A League, scored a victory over local rivals Spalding.

Their 110-97 victory, earning 13 valuable points to lift them off the bottom of the table, follows hot on the heels of the Men's A team's 12-shot triumph over league champions Spalding in the county first division on Sunday.

The women's victory was chiefly due to a late rally after they had trailed behind for many of the first 18 ends.

First signs of revival came when Christine Ford's rink picked up 11 shots in three ends to lead 22-11 and Sue Moir's quartet picked up 15 shots in the last seven ends to run out 33-14 winners.

Even Ann Cullingworth's rink, outclassed for long periods, played their part, claiming four valuable shots in the last three ends, while Joan Robinson's four grabbed six late shots to win 21-18 and Glenys Edwards' rink earned a valuable point against former Stamford bowler Pearl O'Brien.

Result (Stamford names only):

Trudy Bates A League: Stamford 110 (13 pts) Spalding 97 (3). A rink of Stamford bowlers helped Lincolnshire to a comprehensive 140-115 win over Nottinghamshire in the Midland Seniors League on their home green.

Dave Hudson, Doug Want, Bob Warters and Peter Edwards raced into a 17-0 lead and as the Notts quartet, came to terms with the faster surface, finally ran out winners by 31-13.

Fellow Stamford bowler Mike Ramsden joined a Grantham trio who lost 15-22.
