They beat old rivals Boston ‘A’ at their Exeter Gardens stadium and included newcomer Malcolm Mitchell in a re-vamped line-up claiming 12 of the 14 points on offer.
Several of the team which beat multiple champions Lincoln in the final, ruled themselves out of contention but captain Tony Barwell was delighted to include other familiar faces prepared to step up. They included new club president Brian Allen, together with the dependable Tony Scarr and skip Kevin Vinter, who with the consistent Wayne Aspinall at lead, emerged as top rink in a 90-64 victory. There were also wins for veteran skips Mick Linnell and Jeff Pitt - foregoing his preference for singles and doubles to support his team-mates - while Adam Warrington’s quartet restricted Boston’s fight back.

Stamford IBC’s appeal for cash to obtain two electric wheelchairs is close to achieving its target thanks to the generosity of its members and a healthy donation from the family of the late Arthur Chapman one of the beneficiaries of disabled bowling support from the club well into his 90s.
The club is also aiming towards raising further funds for a hoist and additional artificial delivery devices to use from wheelchairs. To donate go to https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/new-electric-wheelchairs
FOOTNOTE: Several Stamford players have also been invited to take part in a new annual memorial fixture at Peterborough IBC on Sunday (2pm) to celebrate the colourful life of Cliff Watson, who died of lung cancer earlier this year and was a member of both clubs.
