Two of Stamford Indoor Bowls Cub's stalwart founder members - Terry and Jean Baxter - have been rewarded with life-membership.

The pair, from Tinwell, both aged 88 - were in at the club's inauguration 25 years ago and offered to organise roll-up sessions for the first influx of members, many of whom had never bowled before.

They were so successful that they have continued to run the morning midweek sessions - more lately continuing into the summer months - for almost 50 bowlers ever since.

The commendation says: "The decision to offer life membership is in recognition of your sterling service to the sport of bowls and in particular to this club during its formative and subsequent years.

"You have been loyal members and staunch supporters of the club both on and off the green. It is in appreciation of your dedication and all that you have done and continue to do for the club."

Said Terry, who also still enjoys a regular round of golf: "We are honoured by this award. It's a great club and we are delighted play our part."
