With a late burst of scoring the Blackstones trio of Mick Humphreys, Jon Earl and Martyn Dolby won the Stamford Indoor Bowls Club Presidents's tournament.

With just one of the 7-end sessions to complete a highly competitive day in which 24 triples took part, they needed six points - two for a match win and one for each winning end - to overtake the rink of Moira and John Holroyd and Neil Wright, who had set a 26 points target from their group.

Against president Shirley Suffling's rink Dolby & Co started with two single shot concessions but then proceeded to take the next five ends and the overall 9-2 to claim the £90 first prize.

Third place went to Dave Hudson, Margaret Bloxham and Cliff Watson with 25 points but with a superior shots difference over Ken Rawlins, Derek King and Richard Allam.

Among those making an impact on the day were junior members Ollie and Amih Jeapes and Nicholas Lees, all of whom showed great potential for the future.

The Presidents paid tribute to Glenys and Peter Edwards, who administered the event and Barrie and Pam Plowman, whom through a raffle helped raise £361 for St Barnabus Hospice in Lincoln - the Presidents' chosen charity.

Results: 28 points - Mick Humphreys, 26 Neil Wright, 25 Dave Hudson and Derek King; 22 Ian Hall, 21 Jay Travis-Jenner, Peter Linnell, 19 Roger Graham, 18 Helen Holroyd, Bob Warters, Kevin Vinter, Shirley Suffling, Elizabeth Wallace, 17 Arthur Lonslow, Garry Knights, 16 Annette Oliver, Howard Neath, 15 Ally McNaughton, 14 Nicholas Lee's, 13 Dennis Henshaw, John Little, 12 Vanessa Shackleton, Peter Sharman, 7 Phil Frampton .

HARRIS IN FINAL DISAPPOINTMENT

Stamford bowler Stephen Harris, representing Spalding IBC, was a member of the Under 25 double rink beaten 36-30 by Swale IBC in the final at Nottingham on Sunday.

Harris skipped a rink of Rhys Hill and Chelsea Tomlin to an 18-9 win but were unable to overturn a 12-27 defeat for Lauren Finbow, Ruby Hill and Jordan Philpott. Spalding had earlier beaten St Neots in the semi-final.

Other winners at the weekend included Huntingdon - a team including Joe Randall, Howard Shipp and Nick Brett - who beat Blackpool in the final of the Denny Plate 82-80.
