Year five students at Sir Malcolm Sargent Junior School in Stamford were introduced to a new sport when they visited Stamford Indoor Bowls Club in Exeter Gardens for some tuition.

The six rink stadium, which has more than 500 playing members bowling for upto ten hours a day, seven days a week, attracts players from more than 20 miles distant and is recognised as one of the most progressive and competitive clubs in the county.

The youngsters under the eye of coaches and experienced players, were given the chance to try the sport in some light-hearted practice sessions during a break from regular studies and fully enjoyed the experienced. Many said they would like to make a return visit. For further information, other schools and potential members should contact the club on www.stamfordindoorbowls.co.uk

Among the early successes in the club's internal competitions are wins in the men's singles for Adam Warrington, Mel DeCamp and Cliff Watson who have each reached the third round. In the county singles, Warrington had qualified for the next round a county stage with a defeat of Chris Ballard.

The NBF and NWBF indoor competitions for 2016 have been released, with some tasty first round battles in the 4-bowl sinmgles including Stephen Harris against Cliff Watson and Martyn Dolby facing James Harford. Dolby plays clubmate Derek King in the senior singles in a repeat of last year's final.

in the women's 4-bowl singles NWBF President Joan Robinson plays her predecessor Valerie Du'Kett and Christine Ford entertains last year's winner Jenny Harvey.

Stamford men's B, looking to improve their position in the Lincs Co-Operative county league Division One, entertain Spalding B on Saturday (Dec 5) at 2.10pm.

Jonathan Earl, Tony Scarr, Roger Martin and Stephen Harris (all Stamford) are included in the Northants Federation Derbyshire Trophy team which entertains Hunts at Peterborough IBC on Sunday (10am).
