Dolby completes a quartet of singles titles with Lincs Seniors

STAMFORD Indoor Bowls Club's Martyn Dolby (pictured) secured his fourth singles title of the season when he beat Louth's Tony Musson in the final of the Lincolnshire Indoor Bowling Association Over 65s event at Sleaford, writes Bob Warters.His 24-12 win in the 21-end format completed a quartet of individual titles following victories in the Northants Indoor Seniors and the Stamford IBC 4-bowl and veterans events. This week he is chasing a fifth singles crown when he competes in the English Federation Seniors championship at Newark.Against Musson the turning point came on the 10th end when Dolby faced a four-count against him but drew the shot to take an 11-7 lead and then proceeded to take the next five ends to lead 22-7. His opponent hit back with counts of 2,2,1 but when Dolby claimed a two on the 19th it closed the door and earned him the trophy which club member Mike Ramsden had originally donated.Said Dolby: "It was a bonus that I was drawn on a rink on which Stephen Harris and I had performed so well in the nationals pairs earlier in the season. I picked up the line and length on the trial ends and although things were very even early on I felt very comfortable.

"It was my best performance of the season, so far," he added.

Sadly clubmate Harris, who reached the final of the Under 18 singles came up against British Isles champion Jordan Philpott (Spalding) in devastating form and lost 6-21.
