Eight Stamford bowlers played a key role in Lincolnshire reaching the quarter-finals of the Senior Liberty national championship, beating Durham by 16 shots at York and District IBC.

Stamford IBC rinks skipped by Martyn Dolby and Peter Edwards both won and helped Lincs to an emphatic 106-90 victory to earn another tilt at their old nemesis Yorkshire on November 22.

It is hoped the home leg for three rinks will be played at Stamford, with three rinks at Featherstone. Aggregate scores will count.

At York, Lincs trailed 66-67 at mid-way in the 18-end match but a rallying call from co-captain Richard White spurred them into action.

Dolby's rink - featuring Malcolm Cullingworth, Bob Warters and making his county debut, Alan Barnes - proceeded to add 13 shots without reply and ran out winners by 28-11.

For Edwards, with Dave Hudson, Derek King and Doug Want, it was a tighter challenge. But they finally ran out 14-13 winners, holding on to the shot on the last end.
