Stamford women bowlers continue to show improved form in national competition by reaching the third round of the Masons Trophy for senior club players. Against local rivals Peterborough IBC they won 38-26 on Friday.
The competition demands one rink of four plays at home while the other competes away, the overall shots securing a place in the next round against Long Sutton who beat Spalding 47-22. The match will be played on Friday, January 20.
At home, Joyce Foster, Flick Rogers, Glenys Edwards and Joan Robinson started slowly but gradually got to grips with the fickle rink five to build a 20-4 lead after 15 ends against Carol Hunter's quartet, finally winning 20-9.
Meanwhile at Peterborough, June Brennan, Carol Warters, Shirley Suffling and Christine Ford struggled on the tricky Rink six, trailing by nine after five ends and six at 10 ends in the 18-end tussle.
However, their lead Brennan marched up the green to shorten the jack length, Stamford never looked back, pulled up to 12-16 behind after 15 ends and finally picking up six shots in the last three ends to run out 18-17 winners.
