WITH an 83-shot defeat of Dunholme, Stamford surged into second place behind multiple champions Lincoln A in the first Division of the Lincs IBA Over 60s League.

From the moment the rink of Roger Graham, Jeff Bourne, Richard Montgomery and Keith Rippin race into a 30-0 lead on rink one, after just ten ends, the overall score never looked in doubt.

And with rinks skipped by Cliff Watson, Trevor Christie and Bob Warters also in the ascendency, it was as one-sided as the final score of 142-59 suggests, with Stamford claiming 16 of the 18 points at stake.

The rink of Mike Ramsden, late replacement Paul Pheasant, Mick Linnell and Roger Martin were all square, sharing 16 shots after 14 ends in a very tight contest but conceded a five count two ends later and finally lost by six.

Stamford are next away to Sleaford on October 30.

DERBYSHIRE TROPHY VICTORY FOR NORTHANTS 'A'

Beginning their defence of the English Bowling Federation inter-county title they won last year for the third time, Northants A will emerge disappointed they could not claim more than the 10 points they picked up from their encounter with their B team at Peterborough.

However, with this 94-86 victory, it sets Northants A up for the visit of North Cambs to Stamford on November 24 while the county's second string will be buoyed with confidence when they host Norfolk on this same surface on November 17.

With the two-bowl triples rinks skipped by Martyn Dolby and Tristan Morton always In control, Northants A rarely looked in danger of conceding the overall points but their county team-mates were determined to uphold their dignity by making it as difficult as possible for the champions on the other two rinks.

And so it proved, with John Holroyd, Cliff Watson and Graham Agger never in danger of a concession against Mick Humphreys, Adam Warrington and James Harford running out comfortable 34-13 winners.

It was closer on the remaining rink where county president Dick Noble linked with Jeff Clipston and Brian Bassam to pick up eight shots in the last four ends to claim a single shots victory against Paul Dalliday, Trevor Collins and Simon Law, whom with Mick Greaves received a commemorative tie for his 100th appearance for the county.

The match featured 15 players who play their indoor bowls at Stamford IBC.

Results (Northants B names first):
