In great style, Stamford seniors have waltzed into the final of the Lincs IBA Over 60s League against Lincoln A to be played at Boston on Thursday April 24 (1pm).
With a convincing 38-shot defeat of Boston B, they won the southern section and will play the defending champions, who confirmed their place with a ‘derby’ defeat of Lincoln C in the northern group.
Boston A had an outside chance of edging out Stamford if they could win their two remaining home fixtures with maximum points but were eclipsed when Stamford comfortably took 12 of the four points they needed in a 90-52 demolition of Lincoln B.
After an opening 14-0 away defeat by Boston A in October, Stamford won all 11 of their subsequent matches amassing 128 points - well clear of their nearest rivals.
Captain Kevin Vinter - delighted by the support he has received from all his players during a gruelling season - deservedly took the rink honours at Lincoln 32-6 alongside Pete Linnell, Peter Burt and Martin Hewitt.
Lincs Over 60s (South): Lincoln B 53 (2pts) Stamford 90 (12). Stamford names only: Dave Heffernan, Alfie Hynes, Pete Smkth, Trevor Collins won 21-17; Jeff Bourne, Dennis Henshaw, Bo Warters, Mick Linnell won 28-8; Tony Barwell, Paul Shaw, Don Bruce, Jeff Pitt lost 12-19; Pete Linnell, Peter Burt, Martin Hewitt, Kevin Vinter won 32-6.

Tony Barwell, John Holroyd, Tony Scarr and Trevor Collins were beaten in the round of the last 16 by Hounslow 17-9 over 18 ends.
The carpet surface remains traditionally slower-paced than Stamford and Scarr commented: “We never got to grips with it. But basically, they played well and we didn’t. They picked up two counts of three and that was the main difference.”
Stamford’s best performance in the event was in 2013 when Mike Ramsden, Bob Warters, Peter Edward and Martyn Dolby were beaten 15-13 in the final by Tye Green (Essex).
Elizabeth Wallace and Christine Ford contest the women’s Senior pairs on Thursday (April 10) against Folkestone for a place in the quarter-finals.
Representing Spalding IBC, Owen Aspinall faces three matches of Under 18 sets singles on Sunday ( April 6).
