Summer League alert! Deadline set for March 15

Teams competing in the Stamford Indoor Bowls Club's summer leagues have until March 15 to register their inclusion, a meeting of administrators decided this week.

The season will run from May 4 - after the club's new green carpet and underlay has been installed during the week commencing April 27 - until September 4.

Four two-hour leagues will again feature - Monday night triples (from 6.30pm), Tuesday pairs ( from 12 noon), Wednesday morning triples (from 10 am) and Friday evening triples (6.30pm). The regular Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday morning drives (10 am) will also be staged.

Each league will have designated administrators together with those responsible for collecting fees and ensuring the building is both open before and secured after each session.

A list of those not involved in teams but prepared to act as occasional substitutes will also be posted.

The meeting also heard that bowls administrators would be invited on April 6 (6.30pm) to hear how the new BowlR registration and scoring system will be introduced for the next summer and winter seasons.

FOOTNOTE: John Holroyd has advised he is resigning from the role of league secretary at the annual meeting on April 15 when it is hoped a replacement will come forward.

HARRIS UNDER 25 BID STUMPED

Ryan Atkins from the Malvern Hills indoor club won the national under 25 singles staged at Spalding Indoor club at the weekend beating England under 25 captain Conor Cinato in the best of three sets final.

Stamford's Stephen Harris (representing the host club) was beaten by Lloyd Sabbatini (Whiteknights, Reading) in a tie break while Sleaford's David Bristow lost to Atkins in the semi-final.

DOUBLE RINK BID FOR LAST 16

Richard Allam and Richard Montgomery will step up into the Stamford A Over 60 Double Rink team which faces Louth for a place in the national quarter-finals on Tuesday (10 am).

Following defeats of March, Charnwood, Leicester and Melton, Stamford will be without Bob Warters and Tony Scarr for the respective away and home legs, played simultaneously, but will introduce very able replacements in Allam and Montgomery.
