Stamford announces Denny Plate re-shuffle

IN A bid to reach the next round of the Denny Plate competition for first round losers in the recent national inter-club Denny Cup, Stamford has re-shuffled its team for the tie against Grantham on Saturday at 10 am.

Two rinks will play at home and two rinks away, simultaneously with the total scores communicated at regular intervals during the 21-end match - all part of the drama in a four-hour contest.

Drafted into the away team are Alan Romaine and John Holroyd to join Adam Warrington and Paul Bailey, while Martyn Dolby's rink - winners in the last round remains the same.

For the home leg, veterans Dave Hudson, Malcolm Cullingworth and Doug Want complete a new combination with the experienced Roger Martin who won the Plate competition in 2007 with current clubmates James Harford and Simon Law.

Simultaneously, Stamford's women take on local rivals Peterborough in the Yetton Trophy 10am: Stamford home: J Brennan, H Holroyd, P Birch, R March; J Want, D Mackie, S Suffling, C Ford. Away: K Bailey, C Warters, M Bloxham, J Robinson; E Wallace, M Andrews, M Holroyd, G Edwards.

DOUBLE RINK, DOUBLE DATE

On Tuesday morning (10am) Stamford will field two teams in the national inter-club Over 60 double rink. Stamford A will field a quartet at home and away against former winners Boston, while Stamford B play Sleaford B

HARRIS AND HOLROYD MIXED PAIRS WIN

Stephen Harris (20) and Helen Holroyd (22) claimed a significant victory in the national mixed pairs when they beat Louise Catchpole and former England international Matt Orrey 18-4.

Elsewhere John Pearson lost in the singles to Stephen Glover (March) while Tony Barwell was beaten by Graham Smith (Spalding).

RE-ARRANGED LOUTH FIXTURE

Following this week's 15-shot defeat of Boston, Stamford Men's A team entertain Louth A on Sunday aiming to further consolidate their defence of the Lincs Division One title (1.10pm start).

The match was originally scheduled for October but was re-arranged when the visitors were unable to raise a team.
