Local clash the prize for senior double rinks

WITH the prize an all-Stamford clash, the club's A and B teams compete in the national Over 60s Double Rink competition against Sleaford A and Skegness respectively on Tuesday morning (10am).

Having seen off Sleaford B in the last round Stamford A field a rink of four players, at home and away simultaneously, against Sleaford A while Stamford B entertain the seasiders' on an adjoining rink, with Cliff Watson's quartet travelling to Skegness.

Teams: Stamford A (v Sleaford A) : Home - D Hudson, D Want, P Edwards, M Dolby; away - B Warters, M Cullingworth, D King, Roger Martin. Stamford B ( v Skegness): Home - D Howarth, D Miller, K Rippin, J Little; away - T Barwell, M Ramsden, D Ford, C Watson.

Stamford's senior women bowlers compete in the national Mason's Trophy double rink event on Friday at 10 am - one rink at home and the other at the four-rink March IBC venue. Aggregate scores will count for a place in the next round against either Peterborough or Grantham.

Stamford team: Home - June Brennan, Carol Warters, Shirley Suffling, Christine Ford. Away - Christine Barnes, Flick Rogers, Glenys Edwards, Joan Robinson.

In individual singles competition, Mark Hebden put up a brave show to take ten shots off world No.14 Matt Orrey at Spalding, as Stephen Harris reached the third round with a 21-6 defeat of Rhys Hill.

Keith Rippin's rink lost a narrow tussle with Martin Simpson 19-18 in the Over 50 triples but alongside Dave Hudson won his Over 60s pairs at Spalding against John Haney and Graham Wright 21-20.
