Stamford's mixed team maintained their challenge for promotion back to the first division of the Lincolnshire League with a last gasp victory at Dunholme.

It went down to the last bowl of the last end delivered by Dick Ford's rink to put the result - a 101-98 nail-biter - beyond doubt and claim 12 of the 18 points at stake.

From a 12-16 deficit, Ford's rink (with Elizabeth and Martin Wallace and Sue Moir) pulled back with seven shots without response to record one of only two winning Stamford rinks. The other was June Brennan, Maurice Dye and Carol and Bob Warters whose 24-9 win also proved crucial.

Result (Stamford names first):

Lincs Mixed League Division Two: Dunholme 98 (6pts) Stamford 101 (12). e Wallace, M Wallace, S Moir, D Ford won 19-16; Mick Smith, M King, J Hare, C Ford lost 24-26; J Brennan, C Warters, M Dye, B Warters won 22-9; P Jones, T Mackie, D Mackie, J Little lost 19-21; M Andrews, J Suffling, S Suffling, P Buckley lost 15-26.

*Stamford Men's B team travelled to Horncastle but returned with only a four of the 18 points available after a 114-77 defeat.
