SPALDING GIRLS ADD MORE TITLES FOR THE CLUB

The national titles keep pouring in for Stamford's local rivals Spalding IBC with Bourne A level student Ruby Hill (18) and Boston nurse Chelsea Tomlin (24) claiming the EIBA women's singles at Melton this week.

Tomlin follows in the footsteps of her dad Martin and grandfather Mick, who won the national men's indoor pairs title out of the Boston club exactly 29 years ago - five years before she was born.

The success was the Spalding club's third of these championships, Graham Smith having won the men's two bowl singles then joining with Matt Whyers, Martin Spencer (Tomlin's partner) and Matt Orrey in winning the men's fours.

In the final they beat defending champions Sandy Hazell and Wendy King, from the Swale club in Sittingbourne 16-13 after trailing 9-13 with four ends to play before switching to a more aggressive approach.

Hill, who is doing her A levels in business, geography and psychology, hopes to take up a business apprenticeship.
