Stamford scores runaway triumph over Long Sutton in Egham Trophy

Stamford IBC romped into the second round of the national Egham (Inter-Club) Trophy mixed fours event with a runaway 91-68 defeat of Long Sutton to earn a second round tie on November 30 with Spalding, who accounted for Grantham 100-57.
Though they lost the double-rink away leg 32-41, Stamford won comfortably at home 59-27 to score an overall 91-68 victory.
Stars of the show in the home leg were lead and No.2, Flick Rogers and Carol Warters, who set up a 34-11 winning margin for their rink, while Shirley Suffling, Christine Ford, Richard Montgomery and Keith Rippin battled to a 22-18 away win.

In the national Inter-Club Yetton Trophy for women, Stamford bowed out to a strong Boston side 64-80, but put up a brave fight against the former holders of the title.
Dropping a five around the mid-way staged set Christine Ford's rink on the backfoot and they finally lost by one shot, while Joan Robinson, Margaret Andrews, Margaret Bloxham and skip Carol Warters stuck to their task and finally emerged deserved winners by two shots.
The two away rinks at Boston, skipped by Glenys Edwards and Denise Mackie, couldn't quite hold their opponents on an unfamiliar surface.

Stamford's Women bowlers completed a double over Scunthorpe in the Trudy Bates League when they entertained the North Lincolnshire club, winning three of the five rinks.
Top scorers were June Brennan, Margaret Broadbelt, Shirley Suffling and Christine Ford, winning by 28 shots.

Local bowlers are making good progress in EIBA national competition's, the latest being a 19-15 win at Spalding for John Holroyd, Ray Keating and Roger Martin over John Needham's rink in the Over 50 Triples,. They must now travel to Boston to play Adrian Field's trio.
Earlier Bob Warters and Martyn Dolby had a close tussle with Colin Palmer and John Maury from Boston, and after 16 of the 21 ends were behind 8-13 until Dolby trailed the jack into the ditch for a four count and they finally ran out 16-14 winners to set up a clash with old rivals Paul Flatters and Les Feary at Boston.
On Saturday, Stamford's men play Grantham in the Denny Cup (10am), the national inter-club knock-out event, hosting two rinks at home and sending two rinks to their county rivals. Best aggregate shots earns a place in the next round; defeat sends the losers into the Denny Plate competition.

World and Commonwealth gold medal-winning bowler Ellen Falkner will be bringing her Aero Bowls demonstration and roadshow to Stamford IBC on Thursday, November 27 (from noon).
As well as the opportunity to try the latest colourful bowls from Australia, visitors to the club (non-members also welcome) will be able to test their skills against one of the world's top women players.
