TRIPLES BEATEN

THE OVER 50 Triples rink of Bob Warters, Cliff Watson and Keith Rippin, who reached the last eight in the national finals at Nottingham last year, stumbled at the first hurdle this time.

They led 14-10 against fellow Stamford bowlers John Holroyd, Mick Humphreys and Roger Martin but conceded five shots on the 14th of 16 ends and finally lost 16-19.

On an adjoining rink in the same competition, Dave Hudson, Tony Scarr and Trevor Collins went down 16-14 to Ray Keating's trio from Peterborough.
