Entrants at the Junior OpenEngland Under 18 triallist Jordan Philpott claimed first prize in the Stamford Junior Bowls Open tournament staged at Stamford IBC at the weekend, beating home favourite Stephen Harris in a tense final. Both are students at Stamford College.

It was revenge for the young Spalding player who lost to Harris the previous year in the annual Under 18s event sponsored by bowls supplier D & M Sports.

Behind 4-7, Harris had the chance to trail the jack for three to take the final into an extra end but wasn't quite able to make full contact and had to settle for the £30 runner-up prize. The pair will represent Lincs in the English Bowls Youth Development Scheme Centre of Excellence finals at Melton IBC at the weekend.

Stamford's own bowlers also performed admirably with Harris winning his four qualifying matches, Jay Travis-Jenner, Jonathan Chambers and Nathan Rigby three apiece and James Hebden and Louise Harris (2). Losing semi-finalist were Travis-Jenner and Samantha Jarvis (Desborough).
