31-shot win for women over Skegness

The Stamford team which recorded a comprehensive victory over Skegness. Stamford's women bowlers hoisted themselves ten points clear at the top of the Lincolnshire (Trudy Bates) 'A' League with a comprehensive 31-shot defeat of Skegness.

After two matches Stamford has 27 points, well ahead of second-placed Spalding. Claiming 14 of the 16 points available they are already looking a formidable outfit but it took a surge of shot-scoring in the second half to quieten the visitors.

Taking the rink honours was the quartet of Margaret King, Valerie Du'Kett, Shirley Suffling and Chris Ford whose 18-shot haul without reply in the last seven ends put their result beyond doubt at 29-14.

Pam Mumford made a welcome return to the side and figured in Glenys Edwards' 23-11 win while there were also wins for rinks skipped by Denise Mackie and Sue Moir.

TOP OF THE TABLE SENIORS

Stamford Over 60s team regained top spot in the Lincs First Division by taking 16 points at Sleaford. They won 118-74, claiming all but one of the five rinks.

With Dave Hudson, Denis Henshaw and Peter Burt, skip Cliff Watson took the rink honours with a 29-13 victory, leading 12-0 after seven ends and the. with a five and six count, romped home.

Derek Cave made an impressive debut alongside Derek King and Jeff Bourne in Keith Rippin's 26-10 win, with Maurice Dye stepping in to Trevor Collins quartet in a 26-14 triumph.

Ten shots in the last five ends took Roger Martin's rink to a one shot victory while Trevor Christie's four rallied late on but lost by one.
