Two bowlers at opposite ends of the age scale helped Stamford IBC Men's A team to an outstanding victory at Scunthorpe in the first division of the Lincs Co-op county league.

Wally Kettle (89) was drafted in at the last minute, while 17-year-old Jay Travis-Jenner stepped up to played a key role in John Holroyd's 38-10 rink triumph, alongside Wayne Morris and captain Adam Warrington in a re-shuffled team.

Stamford, who have rarely found the tricky surface at Scunthorpe a happy hunting ground in the past, quickly got into their stride and had a comfortable lead at halfway thanks chiefly to Holroyd's quartet, in which the youngster was nailing the jack at lead with great precision. At one stage they compiled 28 shots in 13 ends.

Elsewhere Jonathan's Earl's rink picked up a handy five shots on the 14th end to take command and seven shots in five ends put Peter Edwards rink beyond reach.

As for Kettle, his bowls were rarely far from the scoring zone in support of lead Alan Romaine on Roger Martin's rink and such was the competitiveness of their match and the accuracy of the firing by both skips, that only 16 of the scheduled 21 ends were completed.
