Contrasting Fortunes at Boston

Stamford bowlers made the two-hour round trip to Boston twice in three days with contrasting fortunes in the Lincs county league.

The men’s Over 60s came back with just two of the 14 points at stake against Boston ‘A’ but against Boston’s weekend second string, Stamford Men’s A team collected a maximum haul in their opening fixture.

Only the rink of Derek Veasey, Neil Crees, John Holroyd and Kevin Vinter were successful for the Senior side on Thursday in an overall 93-49 defeat, with Vinter back again on Saturday to help the ‘A’ squad to a convincing 99-61 team triumph.

Against Boston ‘B’ the rinks skipped by Jon Earl, Bob Warters and Adam Warrington won convincingly but it took a late single shot by skip Roger Martin to ensure last year’s southern section champions came away with maximum points.

Meanwhile Stamford Men’s B were beaten at home by Grantham 83-66, despite getting off to a flying start.

Eventually Grantham came to terms with the rink pace and took 12 of the 14 points at stake.

Stamford A will next play Spalding - 18-shot winners against Boston A - at home on Saturday October14. They are also due to play their local rivals in the national inter-club Denny Cup the following weekend.
